POSITION OVERVIEW
EcoRise seeks a self-motivated, highly organized, adaptable, and experienced leader to oversee our fundraising team and advance key partnerships nationally in alignment with the organization’s new strategic plan. The Senior Director of Development will work alongside our board, advisory council, senior leadership, and staff to further the mission of EcoRise by providing strategic leadership, direction, and management for resource development. The Senior Director of Development will be responsible for designing a fundraising approach, strategy, and campaigns that engage, inspire, and grow our community of supporters. The Senior Director will execute a multi-year development plan in alignment with the organization's strategic plan and leverage internal and external relationships and resources to drive growth. The Senior Director will design innovative approaches to growing existing partnerships and cultivating new revenue opportunities to support programs nationally, including foundation support, corporate partnerships, and individual giving. This position will report to the Co-Executive Director, lead our Development and Fundraising Teams, and supervise four development staff and contractors.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Development Strategy and Execution
- Develop a strong understanding of the organization’s mission, vision, core values, theory of change, and program models. Translate this into a compelling fundraising strategy, design effective campaigns and collateral, and deploy strategies that motivate a wide range of stakeholders to support the organization.
- Create and implement a multi-year development plan in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan that set specific targets and supports a $2 million annual organizational budget for our upcoming fiscal year. Over two years, increase cumulative philanthropic revenue by 25% to support expanded programming in California, New York, Washington, DC, and Texas, as well as general support for national programs.
- Identify strategies that center program participants and communities served by our programs in our development approach and provide financial support for our educators, students, and community-based partners.
- Manage fundraising events, campaigns, and initiatives to engage the community and enhance donor relationships.
- Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and conferences to promote its mission and vision.
- Activate and leverage internal and external stakeholders, including leadership, staff, board, and advisory council to achieve established goals.
- Identify opportunities to further leverage artificial intelligence to improve efficiency, expand the pipeline, and increase productivity.
- Grow and support the board’s development subcommittee to catalyze funding opportunities; keep subcommittee and board apprised of development activities and progress toward goals.
- Lead and mentor the organization’s Fundraising and Development Teams fostering a collaborative, playful, and high performance culture; monitor and evaluate fundraising performance metrics and adjust strategies as needed, support and motivate the team to achieve goals and execute research, prospecting, writing, stewardship, and reporting activities.
- Provide feedback and guidance to improve marketing, storytelling, and communications initiatives that advance brand awareness and stewardship of key partners.
- Use and refine internal systems, structures, and processes to maintain clear organization of the development team’s activities and workflow.
- Leverage technology applications and donor research tools including AI Applications, Salesforce, Google Apps, Dropbox, Trello, and Candid to enhance efficiency and effectively manage research, proposals, reporting, and data.
Building Diverse Revenue Streams
- Build on the organization’s success in developing corporate partnerships; explore public-private sector opportunities for Youth Councils and Green Career Academy that capitalize on established municipal and corporate relationships, expand employee engagement offerings through mission aligned volunteerism opportunities, and build on an employee giving program with existing corporate partners and board members.
- Expand organization’s foundation support for community, state, and national programs with a focus on foundations that provide funding in areas of STEM education, workforce development, civic engagement, social connection, economic opportunity, sustainability, and climate; steward existing foundation supporters and develop relationships with new foundations that expand and diversify available funding resources.
- Develop the organization’s nascent individual giving program to grow revenue and expand donor base, including designing a strategy focused on soliciting donations from high net worth individuals and donor advised funds.
- In collaboration with the board and communications team, create and implement a compelling annual giving campaign that centers program stories, nourishes existing partnerships, and grows individual donor base.
REQUIREMENTS
- 5-8 years fundraising or grant-making experience or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to craft strategy and execute tactics from start to finish, assess impact, and regroup accordingly.
- Experience securing major grants from foundations, corporate partners, and individuals.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills that help represent racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
- Ability to successfully execute multiple, simultaneous projects on time with high-quality results.
- Self-driven personality with effective project management skills.
- Attentive to detail with a keen aptitude for organization.
- Strong computer literacy skills.
- Ability to adapt and learn quickly, ask thoughtful questions, and give and receive feedback.
- Committed to, knowledgeable of, and enthusiastic about the EcoRise mission and programs; familiarity with sustainability, environmental and climate justice, and public K–12 education systems.
- Willingness to travel occasionally and work nights and weekends as needed.
TIMELINE AND COMPENSATION
This is a full-time position with an annual salary ranging from $85,000 to $100,000 based on experience. For the right candidate, a part-time role will be considered. Benefits include an unlimited PTO policy with seven paid holidays and four weeks recess for all staff, flexible Fridays, employee insurance (including health, dental and vision), retirement plan contribution, $1,500 quality of life stipend, professional development stipends, and co-working expense reimbursement.
